World Oceans Day 2021
Tuesday, June 8 is World Oceans Day. The purpose of World Oceans Day is to highlight the impact of human actions on the ocean and unite so that together we can work for sustainable management of the world's oceans. Women Mind the Water is doing her share to bring attention to the ocean through art and women’s work. We excited to announce that our work has gone global. Several of our recent Women Mind the Water Artivist Series guests call Mexico home AND our founder and Women Mind the Water podcaster Pam Ferris-Olson was interviewed by Katt Andryskova for her Ocean Pancake podcast. Their connection stretched from Maine to the West Coast of Australia! We’ll let you know when that half-way across the world podcast is posted. Women Mind the Water hopes soon to connect with artists in France and Japan.
We also are pleased to announce that our most recent Women Mind the Water Artivisit Series podcast with visual artist Asher Jay, a United Nations Women Design Star and an National Geographic Emerging Explore, marked our 20th podcast! We’re not done yet and we hope you’re not done either. You can watch the video podcast on our Women Mind the Water website and our Women Mind the Water YouTube channel and on the Smithsonian’s Museum on Main Street. Audio versions can be heard on our website, iTunes, and Spotify.
Coming soon an interview with Ali Farrell author of two books about women who earn their livelihoods by fishing for lobster. Another upcoming podcast features Lluvia Tec who with the aid of an interpreter talks about why sea turtles are a prominent feature in her artwork. Also, planned in the near future are conversations with artists whose media are woodblocks, plankton and so much more. Please consider subscribing. Please let us know what you like and who else you’d suggest we feature.
