Memorial Day 2021
It’s a cold, dreary Memorial Day in Maine but I haven’t forgotten the importance of this day in honoring veterans nor in my commitment to sharing stories about female artists who have something to say about the ocean. Today I posted the latest podcast which features Mexican visual/dance artist Vania Lozano. Vania, the daughter of marine biologists, had a childhood immersed in water. Water is reflected throughout her art and her dance. Water takes center stage in her recently created video Resignificando “Vida”. The video is a reflection of her feelings about the isolation related to living in a Covid-19 world and the power of water.
This week I will be interviewing Ali Farrell for an upcoming Women Mind the Water podcast. Ali is an author who has written two books about women who earn their livelihoods fishing for lobster in Maine. Watch for that podcast soon. I’m also preparing to produce a Women Mind the Water podcast featuring Lluvia Tec, a Mexican college student from Akumal in Mexico. Akumal means turtle in Mayan and turtles are a prominent feature in her artwork. Lluvia, through an interpreter, talks about life growing up along the Mexican Caribbean and sea turtles.
