Celebrating Our First Anniversary

Women Mind the Water is about to celebrate its first birthday. We began building our website on Squarespace on July 8, 2021. It took some time before we were ready to unveil the site to the public and ever since we’ve been learning and growing and adjusting. Almost a year later, Women Mind the Water is preparing to make some major changes to the site. We want to streamline, refine, and make the site even better. More news on this soon.

Our Artivist Series podcast crossed the 20 episode mark not too long ago! Since our interview with United Nations Women Design Star and National Geographic Emerging Explore visual artist Asher Jay, we’ve posted stories about Mexican artist/dancer Vania Lozano, Mayan visual artist Lluvia Tec, Maine author Ali Farrell, and just posted is an interview with saltwater educator Lexi Doudera. The video podcast of Vania Lozano includes her video Resignificando “Vida”, a visually captivating piece which makes it clear that Vania is at home as a dancer on land as in the water. The production of Lluvia Tec’s interview was technically challenging due to the internet connection. The need for an interpreter presented a different kind of connection issue. Despite these things, it is clear that Lluvia is an earnest artist who is concerned about sea turtles. She is trying to make a difference with her art. Ali Farrell’s interview about her book Pretty Rugged was a fascinating look into the lives of women who fish for lobster. And just posted is an interview with Lexi Doudera, a young woman fueled by a passion for the ocean that inspired her creative vision to teach young people about the ocean and sustainability.

Coming soon are conversations with artists whose media include woodblocks, plankton and much more. Please let us know what you like and who else we should feature.
