We’re getting recognized!

We were featured on TV! Why? Because Women Mind the Water was named CommUnity Champion by the ABC TV affiliate in Portland, Maine! Check out the video on our home page. Coincidence? The station’s call letters WMTW are the same as the initials for Women Mind the Water!!! Funny coincidence or something more?

More exciting news. The Women Mind the Water Podcasts will soon be included in the Smithsonian Institution’s Museum on Main Street Waterways project. This means that our podcasts, recognizing the work of artists who are inspired by the ocean, will be shared and archived by MoMS.

Wait there’s more! Jill Pelto, the artist featured in Episode 3 of the Women Mind the Water Podcast, was featured in the November 2020 edition of Maine Women Magazine. Jill is an accomplished climate change artist and scientist. She’s done field work on glaciers in Antarctica and her watercolor depicting the effects of global climate change on glaciers was the cover art for the July 2020 issue of Time.

Our latest podcast episode, Episode 5 features Kate Hruby. Kate is a marine and climate change educator as well as an artist and podcaster. She is the founder of Go Forth and Science, a science website and podcast that aims to communicate science in fun and engaging ways.

Though Women Mind the Water is getting recognition, we still need your help! Recommend our site to others. Also, consider purchasing a print or a t-shirt from our shop. Proceeds go to the Anderson Cabot Center for Ocean Life at the New England Aquarium, a non-profit that conducts research aimed at seeking solutions to mitigate human impacts on the ocean.
