Now part of the Smithsonian and more good news

Good news and recognition of Women Mind the Water’s work continues! The first five episodes of the Women Mind the Water podcast series are now part of the Museum on Main Street Collection. You can find the videos and transcripts for each podcast at: https://museumonmainstreet.org/stories/search. I hope you agree that the Museum on Main Street has done a fantastic job. I particularly love the way each piece has been paired with a quote that encapsulates the essence of each artist.

In case you missed it, Women Mind the Water was named CommUnity Champion by the ABC TV affiliate in Portland, Maine. Check out the video on our home page.

An article in Maine Women Magazine about Hope Rovelto, the Portland, Maine artist who hand screen prints the Women Mind the Water t-shirts, is now available to read online at http://mainewomenmagazine.com/october-2020-victoria-rowell/ Please consider purchasing one of the T-shirt collaborations between Hope and Women Mind from our shop. Proceeds go to the Anderson Cabot Center for Ocean Life at the New England Aquarium, a non-profit that conducts research aimed at seeking solutions to mitigate human impacts on the ocean.

The November 2020 edition of Maine Women Magazine features Jill Pelto, Episode 3 of the Women Mind the Water Podcast. Jill and I are making plans for a joint exhibition of our artwork. Stay tuned for more information on that, coming soon.

Women Mind the Water is pleased to announce that we have been invited to be one in a cohort of organizations and individuals across Maine that will be hosting a Maine Humanities Council Discussion Project. The Women Mind the Water reading group will focus on Rachel Carson’s book The Sea Around Us (1951). The book was on The New York Times best-seller list for 31 consecutive weeks and won the 1952 National Book Award. The group will offer an opportunity which to reflect on the world over the past 70 years. More news on the reading group, coming soon.
