Welcome

Welcome to my Website – our Website. This site is a place for collaboration, a place to tell the stories that resonate deeply within us. I have created, with the help of two special ladies at StoryPunch, a space to create connection between women, storytelling in its many forms, and ocean water.

Women are by nature storytellers. Our stories connect us to our children, grandchildren, and past generations. Our stories unite us through our shared experiences. They give framework for our humanness.

We are all connected by the ocean water that flows through our veins. Our blood is composed primarily of water with a concentration of salt and ions remarkably similar to that of the ocean. In many other ways, we are connected to the ocean. A body of scientific evidence demonstrates that our personal connection to the ocean has positive impacts for our health and well-being. When we understand that who we are is so directly tied to the ocean, an emotional bond is established.

Connectedness is a key theme of this Website. You will find one group of stories by using the link to my doctoral dissertation about the importance of communication and storytelling to nine Midwestern women. There also is a link to my non-fiction book with stories about three women who struggle to live graceful lives.

Located on this Website are digital stories told by women about their personal connection to water. Some of these stories have been included in the Smithsonian’s Museum on Main Street’s Waterways exhibition. You are invited to submit your own digital story for inclusion.

Here, too, you will discover my unique brand of visual storytelling. My artwork explores the implications of human activities on the ocean and her creatures. Some of these images are available for purchase in the Shop.  And, there is a podcast that shares the stories of other like-minded artists.

In all these ways, I hope to encourage collaboration and build community, a community that celebrates women, storytelling, and the ocean and fosters respect for one another and a responsibility to care for the ocean and her creatures.
