December News

The high tide the first weekend of December demonstrated for me that sea level rise isn’t something to take place in the future. It’s happening now and in a significant way. Have you seen the latest ocean-related news stories? Should I care about the ocean? was inspired by the United Nations Climate Change Conference, more commonly referred to as COP26, held October 31 to November 13, 2021, in Scotland. The newest is a companion to an earlier one entitled Are North Atlantic right whales destined for extinction? The most recent titled Off again, on again, protections: will the North Atlantic right whale survive the legal wrangling?, was first published on the prestigious environmental news site Earth.Org. Wonder what you’ll think after you read the articles.

Cheryl Massey is the most recent guest on The Women Mind the Water Artivist Series Podcast. Cheryl is an accomplished basket maker. Her signature basket is made from the bull kelp she collects along the rocky shores of British Columbia. I was surprised to learn that Cheryl weaves her baskets using dried kelp. Next up is Cathy Sakas who has produced nature documentaries, authored several books, and shas a pilot’s license to drive a one-person submersible. Many more amazing artivists are being lined up for 2022.
