November News

We have a way that may make your winter holiday shopping a bit easier. Women Mind the Water has a unique gift that won’t get tied up in the supply chain backlog. We’ve produced a brand NEW, original coloring book. Available for digital download is Color Me Blue: An ocean animals coloring book. It features eight engaging images of marine animals created by Women Mind the Water founder and artist Pam Ferris-Olson. Color a California sea otter, polar bear, Maine lobster, harp seal, North Atlantic right whale, sea turtle, and Atlantic cod. Each animal is accompanied by a separate page of informative details. Proceeds from the sale of the coloring book are designated for marine animal research and recovery.

Have you seen our latest news post: Are North Atlantic right whales destined for extinction? The previous news post detailed The Mystery of What’s Killing Sea Lions in California. What ocean news topics interest you?

Two new artivists were featured since we wrote last: Elle Wibisono and  Paulita Bennett-Martin.  Elle is a comic artist and deep water fisheries specialist with a particular focus on snapper and grouper. She’s an accomplished young women exploring effective ways to communicate topics of marine science. This is why she created the comic Fishtory. Paulita is a multidimensional ocean activist working in the areas of advocacy, research and community building. Paulita is the founder of Whale Week Savannah and the Federal Policy Manager for Oceana. On the podcast, we talk about the value of storytelling in her work.

Coming soon are interviews with Cheryl Massey, Hermina Glass-Hill, Cathy Sakas and others. Cheryl is a talented basket maker whose signature work is made from bull kelp she collects along the coast of British Columbia. Hermina works to protect the ocean by building consensus and harnessing people power. She’s a champion for equity and justice.  Cathy focuses on coastal conservation.  She’s produced nature documentaries, authored several books and served as the cochair of Gray’s Reef National Marine Sanctuary Foundation.  Lots more amazing stories on the way.

Mark your calendar. Friday, Dec. 3, Women Mind the Water will taking over The Marine Diaries Instagram and Facebook pages. The same posts also will run on our Facebook and Instagram pages.
