Watercolors that Bring Undersea Creatures to Life - Janavi Kramer

Women Mind in Water: Artivist Series Watercolors that Bring Undersea Creatures to Life - Janavi Kramer

About Janavi Kramer

Janavi Kramer is a mixed media artist who uses watercolors to illustrate her passion for the ocean and her creatures.  Her art is a reflection of her youth exploring the rocky coastline of northern England and a decade of diving. Janavi artwork invites her audience to make a connection with the ocean. Janavi is dedicated to helping support non-profits that are committed to making a positive impact on an ocean environment in crisis.

Watercolor Ocean Art and Conservation

Janavi Kramer says her love for the ocean began early. It was shaped by time spent exploring England’s north coast and by her mother’s art supplies. Her mother was an artist, and those early creative experiences helped Janavi develop her own relationship with art, nature, and the sea.

More recently, Janavi learned to scuba dive, which deepened her connection to the ocean and changed the way she sees marine life. For Janavi, art is a universal language. She believes watercolor can captivate people who may not already feel connected to the ocean and inspire them to care about its future.

Her watercolor paintings reflect the movement, color, and fluidity of the sea. The vibrant colors she chooses and the flowing nature of watercolor remind her of the ocean itself. Through painting, Janavi discovers new ways to observe and understand ocean creatures.

Diving has also opened her eyes to the threats facing the ocean. As Janavi explains, “You come face-to-face with the impacts,” making it impossible to ignore issues like ocean acidification and plastic pollution. Seeing these problems firsthand is one reason she collaborates with nonprofits and uses her art to support ocean conservation.

Janavi wants people to know that they do not have to be artists or scuba divers to make a difference. Her advice is simple: think about the skills you already have and use them to help. That might mean running to raise money for a cause, joining a beach cleanup, donating to an organization, or sharing your own talents in support of the ocean.

Through Below and Beyond Art, Janavi Kramer uses watercolor to celebrate marine life, raise awareness about ocean threats, and remind people that everyone has something meaningful to contribute.

Pam’s work now focuses on the ocean. She is an ecological artist creating quirky images of marine animals and installations aimed at engaging, informing, and stimulating dialog. She is a podcaster and hosts the Women Mind the Water Artivist Series which explores the connection between the work of artivists and their impact in influencing change.
